Miles Teller Blames ‘Fantastic Four’ Failure on Key Individual
Miles Teller recently discussed his experience with the 2015 adaptation of “Fantastic Four” during an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM. He revealed he had concerns about the film’s reception even before its release.
Miles Teller on the Fantastic Four Experience
Teller described his initial reaction after viewing the final cut of the movie. He recalls telling a studio executive, “I think we’re in trouble.” His apprehension stemmed from the film’s quality as he felt the project was compromised.
The Pressure to Join the Superhero Genre
Reflecting on his early career, Teller expressed the pressure he faced in his late 20s to participate in superhero films. He noted this genre was essential for emerging actors wanting to be recognized as serious leading men.
“It was like, ‘Alright, if you want to be taken seriously as a leading man, you got to get on this superhero train,’” he said. He appreciated his co-stars, including Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, believing they were well-cast.
Box Office and Critical Reception
- Film: Fantastic Four
- Release Year: 2015
- Director: Josh Trank
- Production Budget: $120 million
- Global Gross: $168 million
- Critical Reception: Mostly negative
Upon its release, “Fantastic Four” faced significant backlash from critics and underperformed at the box office. It managed to gross only $168 million worldwide, which was a disappointment given its hefty budget.
The Fallout and Future of the Franchise
As a result of the negative reception, the characters have largely remained inactive for nearly a decade. Recently, Marvel has revived the franchise with “The Fantastic 4: First Steps,” released last summer.
Blame for the Film’s Failure
Teller seemed to place blame for the film’s shortcomings on an unnamed individual. He acknowledged that despite the efforts of many, one important person may have derailed the project’s success.
“It’s unfortunate because so many people worked hard on that movie,” Teller remarked. “Maybe there was one really important person who kind of messed it all up.”
Upcoming Projects
Currently, Miles Teller is promoting his upcoming film “Eternity,” where he stars alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Callum Turner. The film delves into a love triangle in the afterlife and is set for theatrical release on November 26, under A24.
