Allred remarked, “I like James, but when I see him say that he’s running against billionaires, it contributes to the cynicism people feel.”
Talarico’s campaign has accepted $59,000 from Texas Sands PAC, backed by Adelson, during his 2024 reelection effort for the Texas House. This political action committee has invested around $7.5 million in Texas politics since its inception.

In defense of his actions, Talarico stated that the donations reflected his support for issues these groups advocate, such as legalizing gambling and opposing private school vouchers. He noted, “I refuse to ‘unilaterally disarm’ while others in the Republican party exploit the system.”
