Shea Tierney Had No Expectations for Giants OC Promotion
Shea Tierney, the quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants, recently faced significant changes within the team. The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll, who had guided Tierney since their time at Alabama in 2017. This reshuffling coincided with Jameis Winston’s sudden rise from third-string quarterback to starter due to injuries affecting Jaxson Dart and Russell Wilson.
Shea Tierney’s Role and Expectations
Tierney expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by Daboll. He noted, “I don’t think there is ever any expectation [to be promoted] with anything like that.” Instead, he prioritized what would benefit the team. Although Tierney was overlooked for the offensive coordinator position, which interim head coach Mike Kafka awarded to tight ends coach Tim Kelly, he remained supportive. “I was happy for Tim. He has a lot of good experience doing it,” Tierney added.

Currently, the Giants are preparing for their third starting quarterback this season. Tierney is focused on ensuring that Winston is ready, citing his energy and experience as assets that will benefit the team. “He gives energy to the other guys and feeds off the other guys,” said Tierney.
