Iconic Uniform Detail to Return on Saturday for First Time This Century

The Tennessee Volunteers football team will showcase a significant change in their uniforms this Saturday. For the first time this century, the iconic “Star Vols” logo will return to the jerseys during their game against New Mexico State.

Debut of the “Volunteer Spirit” Uniforms

This event marks the debut of the 2025 “Smokey Grey” uniforms. The game will take place at Neyland Stadium, where the team will honor the United States Armed Forces through the design of these unique uniforms.

Uniform Features

  • Davy Crockett stripes on the helmet and shoulders
  • Two-tone color scheme between jerseys and pants
  • Stencil numbers prominently displayed on both the front and back
  • A military-inspired patch featuring the return of the “Star Vols” logo on the pants and helmet bumper

The last appearance of the “Star Vols” logo was on November 30, 1996, during a game at Vanderbilt. Fans will surely appreciate its return, as it has become a favorite for merchandise on game days.

Game Details

No. 23 Tennessee, with a record of 6-3, will face New Mexico State, which has a current record of 3-6. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:15 p.m. ET. In addition to the unveiling of the new uniforms, this game will also serve as the Vols’ Salute to Service and Homecoming contest.

Pregame Events

Fans can look forward to a special pregame ceremony, featuring a flyover by two F-35 jets from the 58th Fighter Squadron, based in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. This flyover is scheduled for 4:09 p.m. ET, just prior to kickoff.
