Detroit Lions Place Sam LaPorta on IR Amid Roster Changes
The Detroit Lions have made several roster changes as they prepare for their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles. A significant move includes placing starting tight end Sam LaPorta on injured reserve due to a back injury.
Roster Updates Ahead of Week 11
LaPorta suffered the injury in Week 10, which prevented him from practicing throughout the week. As a result, he has been ruled out for Week 11. Once placed on injured reserve, LaPorta will be unable to return until at least Week 15.
New Roles for Tight Ends
In LaPorta’s absence, Brock Wright will take on the primary tight end role. Head coach Dan Campbell commented on Wright’s versatility, noting, “He does everything for us.” Wright has demonstrated skills in pass protection, run blocking, and route running.
- Wright will serve as TE1.
- Ross Dwelley will assume the TE2 position.
- Jackson Meeks, a rookie wide receiver, has been cross-trained at tight end.
Meeks has shown promise with his physical attributes and work ethic. Campbell remarked on Meeks’ potential, stating, “He’s a big athlete, he’s got length, and we’ll see how he develops.”
Additional Roster Changes
In addition to LaPorta’s placement on injured reserve, the Lions have signed offensive lineman Michale Niese to their active roster. This move boosts their offensive line depth, giving them eight healthy linemen available for the game day roster.
With no additional offensive linemen elevated, it appears that starters Penei Sewell, Taylor Decker, and Graham Glasgow are set to play against the Eagles.
The Lions continue to adjust their roster in preparation for the challenging matchup, ensuring they have the best team on the field.
