JJ Starling, Tyler Betsey Injury Updates After Syracuse Defeats Drexel
In a recent game, the Syracuse Orange secured an impressive 80-50 victory over Drexel. Following the match, coach Adrian Autry provided updates on the injury statuses of two key players, JJ Starling and Tyler Betsey.
Tyler Betsey’s Ankle Injury
Tyler Betsey, a sophomore forward for Syracuse, sustained an ankle injury during the first half of the game. With 9:31 left in the first half, Betsey rolled his ankle after scoring five points. Although he hobbled off the court, he returned to the bench shortly after.
Coach Autry pointed out that the injury did not seem severe. He remarked, “I think it was his ankle, so I think he might’ve twisted it or rolled it.” The coaching staff plans to evaluate Betsey’s condition in the next few days.
JJ Starling’s Recovery Progress
Meanwhile, JJ Starling, who was the leading scorer for Syracuse last season, is working toward a return to the lineup. He has missed the last two games due to a right leg injury suffered early in the Orange’s season opener against Binghamton.
Coach Autry mentioned that Starling is “really close” to returning. However, the coach did not confirm whether Starling would be available for the Orange’s upcoming game against Monmouth on Tuesday.
Upcoming Schedule for Syracuse
- Next Game: Tuesday against Monmouth
- Players Era Festival: Starting on Monday, November 24
- First Game in Vegas: Against No. 1 Houston
The Importance of Starling
Autry emphasized the significance of Starling’s presence on the court. “He’s our captain, he’s our leader. For our team to be whole, we need him,” the coach stated. His timely return could bolster Syracuse’s performance as they head into a competitive stretch.
