Weekend Rain Set to Soak Sacramento Through Monday

Sacramento residents can expect weekend rain to impact the area through Monday. Following a significant storm that drenched the region on Thursday, the National Weather Service has forecast further wet weather for the coming days.

Upcoming Weather Forecast

Forecaster Kate Forrest indicated that while an inch of rain fell across the capital region on Thursday, the weekend’s systems are projected to bring lighter precipitation. Each of the impending storm systems may yield between half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

Details on Storm Systems

  • The first wave of rain is expected to arrive Saturday afternoon.
  • Showers are projected to continue into Sunday morning.
  • The second system will follow, moving in on Sunday afternoon and lasting into Monday.
  • Lingering showers may persist into early Tuesday morning.

These weather systems are expected to blend closely, leading to extended periods of wet weather over the weekend.

County Response and Community Support

In light of the forecast, Sacramento County has extended its weather respite program, available until 10 a.m. on Monday. The Warren E. Thornton Youth Center at 4000 Branch Center Road will provide shelter for individuals 18 and older, with accommodations for pets.

  • Pets must be kept in crates indoors and leashed outdoors.

The Outreach and Engagement Center at 3615 Auburn Blvd. will operate from 1 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday.

Transportation Updates

To facilitate access to these centers, Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free rides on buses and light rail trains. Riders can use a special flyer for free transit access.

Sierra Nevada Snow Levels

This weekend’s weather will also influence the Sierra Nevada. Snow levels are expected to remain high, around 6,000 feet, before dropping to approximately 5,500 feet by Monday morning.

Rainfall Statistics

The recent storms contribute to a considerable increase in rainfall totals for Sacramento. Since the start of the new water year on October 1, the city has recorded 3.79 inches of rain, significantly above the normal average of 1.41 inches for this time of year.

However, since January 1, Sacramento’s total of 10.29 inches is still below the average of 13.61 inches.

As the weekend rain continues to soak Sacramento, residents are advised to stay prepared and informed about the evolving weather conditions.
