Snow Replaces Freezing Rain in Several Québec Areas

The weather in Québec shifted dramatically as freezing rain gave way to snow across various regions. As of 7:30 AM on Sunday, Environment Canada had lifted all freezing rain alerts. Snow warnings replaced these alerts in multiple areas, marking a significant change in the weather pattern.

Power Outages Reported

Hydro-Québec reported that approximately 6,300 customers were without electricity early Sunday morning. The most impacted areas included:

  • Capitale-Nationale: 3,447 subscribers
  • Outaouais: 1,759 residents, businesses, and institutions

Snow Accumulations Expected

Weather forecasts indicated that several regions would receive significant snowfall. Notably, the following areas are expected to see the most accumulation:

  • Lanaudière: Rawdon and Joliette, with 10 to 15 centimeters of snow expected by midday.
  • Maurecie: Similar conditions forecasted for Louiseville and Shawinigan.
  • Abitibi-Témiscamingue: Rouyn and Témiscouata, projected to receive 15 to 20 centimeters of snow.
  • Laurentides: Snow expected around Mont-Laurier until Sunday afternoon.

Road Conditions

By morning, several roads were partially covered with snow. The Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility advised residents to check the road conditions before traveling. It remains crucial to stay informed about weather changes and potential hazards on the roads.
