Tilly Norwood’s Company Launches AI-Driven Series Commission

Particle6, a U.K.-based production company, is making waves with its new AI-driven series commissioned by Hearst Networks. This innovative project, titled “Straten van Toen” (“Streets of the Past”), will premiere on The History Channel in the Netherlands.

Overview of “Streets of the Past”

This 10-episode series features Dutch historical investigator and reality star Corjan Mol, known for his role in “The Curse of Oak Island.” Each episode will transport viewers back in time, using AI technology to explore the rich history behind some of the Netherlands’ most iconic streets and squares.

Key Locations Featured

  • Rokin, Amsterdam: This location was formerly home to the first stock exchange in the 17th century, now bustling with shops.
  • Janskerkhof, Utrecht: A historic site that served as a center for Dutch Resistance during World War II, now a flower market.

Corjan Mol will begin each episode on-site, showcasing the modern landscape of these locations. Through the power of AI, he will then delve into the past, creating immersive historical scenes that combine archival materials with live-action footage.

Innovative Use of AI in Production

Eline van der Velden, Founder and CEO of Particle6, explained the creative process behind this groundbreaking series. “While we have been using AI behind the scenes for research and post-production, this marks our first major deployment of AI on screen, guided by human expertise,” she stated. The series blends contemporary footage with AI-generated historical scenes seamlessly.

The Vision for the Future

Van der Velden emphasized the potential of this technology. “AI has proven to be an excellent creative partner, allowing us to deliver stunning cinematic images that may redefine historical programming for the future.”

Despite previous controversies surrounding their AI character Tilly Norwood, Van der Velden remains optimistic about the project’s direction. She noted that Norwood was part of a strategic business initiative that has been successful.

With “Straten van Toen,” Particle6 aims to push boundaries in storytelling by combining artificial intelligence with rich historical narratives. This series promises to captivate viewers while educating them about the storied past of the Netherlands.
