GameStop’s “Trade Anything Day” Welcomes Taxidermy Sales

GameStop is set to launch a unique promotion called “Trade Anything Day,” allowing customers to trade in unconventional items for store credit. This special event encourages participants to bring in items that go beyond the typical inventory of video games, consoles, and accessories.

What is “Trade Anything Day”?

The event is scheduled for a single day, during which GameStop will accept a wide variety of physical items. Marketed as “Bring Whatever and Get Store Credit,” it features a playful note that some questions may be asked regarding the items brought in. This initiative is part of GameStop’s strategy to attract customers back to its retail locations.

Eligible Items for Trade

  • Almost any physical item is acceptable, provided it meets size requirements.
  • Taxidermy items are specifically confirmed as valid trades.

Excluded Items from the Promotion

Despite its flexible approach, GameStop has outlined specific categories of items that will not be accepted during the event. These exclusions include:

  • Hazardous materials, chemicals, and liquids
  • Weapons and ammunition
  • Dead or alive animals (except for taxidermy)
  • Alcohol, tobacco, and drugs
  • Various computer equipment, including desktops, laptops, and VR headsets
  • Portable digital music players, VCRs, and DVD players
  • Gift cards, jewelry, and sexual or explicit items
  • Items resembling human body parts

Trade-In Limitations

All traded items must fit within a container measuring 20x20x20 inches. Final approval for accepted items will be determined by GameStop staff, who hold the discretion to decline trades based on company policy.

GameStop’s Recent Marketing Strategies

This isn’t the first time GameStop has implemented unconventional marketing tactics. Earlier in 2025, the company auctioned a viral stapler that caused damage to the launch day of Switch 2 devices. Notably, CEO Ryan Cohen humorously included his underwear in the auction.

With “Trade Anything Day,” GameStop aims to reinvigorate interest in physical store trade-ins, capturing attention with its quirky promotion and enticing customers to explore new trading possibilities.
