Queen’s Historic Live Aid Performance

Queen’s set at Live Aid is celebrated as one of the greatest live performances in music history. Despite not initially being scheduled to perform, Queen captivated the audience with a 21-minute show that included several of their most famous tracks.

Highlights of the Performance

  • The performance opened with an excerpt from “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
  • This was followed by an energetic version of “Radio Ga Ga,” with the audience participating enthusiastically.
  • Freddie Mercury famously led a call-and-response chant, referred to as “The Note Heard Round the World.”
  • They concluded with brief renditions of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”

With an audience of around 72,000 people, Mercury’s charisma and stage presence left a lasting impact. Event organizer Bob Geldof praised Queen, stating, “They played the best, had the best sound, and fully embraced the concept of a global jukebox.”
