SQDC Launches Vaping Products on November 26

The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) is set to introduce its range of vaping products on November 26. This decision comes in response to increasing consumer demand. Vaping devices and cartridges will be available at all 108 SQDC locations across Quebec.

Training and Compliance

In preparation for this launch, SQDC employees underwent over four hours of training. This training was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to ensure knowledgeable customer service.

New Suppliers and Products

The SQDC will feature products from 14 suppliers, including nine located in Quebec. Dany Lefebvre, head of the Quebec-based cannabis production company Bleuh, expressed enthusiasm for this development. A total of 29 new vaping products will be available by the end of November.

Legal and Market Context

Since the legalization of cannabis vaping products in Canada in 2019, the SQDC had initially refrained from offering them. This was due to health recommendations issued six years ago. However, with increasing demand, the SQDC decided to enter the market to prevent consumers from resorting to illegal sources.

Expert Insight

Luc Boileau, then the national director of public health in Quebec, acknowledged the evolving situation a year ago. Current public health responsibilities lie with Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh.

Quality and Standards

Leaders in the industry, such as Lefebvre, believe that Quebec has the potential to produce some of the highest quality vaping products globally. The SQDC aims for these products to be of exceptional purity and to contain THC levels below 30%. Additionally, the SQDC has ensured that marketing of these products does not target youth.

Product Pricing

  • Price range for vape liquid: $34 to $53.70 per gram
  • Average price: $38.36 per gram

Consumer Trends and Goals

The SQDC reports that 28% of cannabis consumers in Quebec prefer vaping, according to the 2025 Quebec Cannabis Survey conducted by the Institut de la statistique du Québec. Geneviève Giroux, vice president of responsible marketing and supply chain, emphasized the importance of offering lower-risk products to consumers who choose to vape.

While the SQDC has no specific sales targets, they will monitor product performance. In other provinces, vaping represents about 20% of cannabis sales.

Age Restrictions and Public Safety

Giroux reassured that the SQDC is committed to serving adults aged 21 and above. Strict age verification measures will be in place, and no promotional efforts will target younger consumers.
