McAvoy Undergoes Surgery, Out Indefinitely for Bruins
Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is sidelined indefinitely following facial surgery, as announced by the team on Wednesday. The injury occurred during a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, where McAvoy was struck in the face by a slap shot from Noah Dobson in the second period. Following the incident, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
McAvoy was absent from the Bruins’ subsequent matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, which ended in a 3-1 loss for Boston. Bruins head coach Marco Sturm provided an update on McAvoy’s condition, stating, “He’s doing good. He’s recovering right now at home, and we still don’t know how long he’s going to be out for.”
Team Challenges Amid Injuries
Sturm emphasized the need for other players to step up during this challenging period for the Bruins. “It can’t be just Nikita Zadorov and Hampus Lindholm,” he noted. In addition to McAvoy, the team is dealing with several other injuries, impacting their overall performance.
Current Roster Status
- Elias Lindholm: Lower body injury
- Viktor Arvidsson: Lower body injury
- Casey Mittelstadt: Lower body injury
- Jordan Harris: Ankle surgery
“Every team goes through it, and unfortunately it’s us right now,” Sturm remarked, highlighting the ongoing challenges. He also acknowledged that this situation presents opportunities for other players who are eager to gain ice time.
McAvoy’s Performance Before Injury
Before his injury, McAvoy had recorded 14 assists in just 19 games this season. He was leading the Bruins in time on ice per game, averaging 23 minutes and 46 seconds. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team works to navigate this tough stretch.
