Ariana Grande Contracts COVID-19 Following ‘Wicked 2’ Press Tour

Ariana Grande has tested positive for COVID-19, impacting her promotional activities for the upcoming film “Wicked: For Good.” She shared this news on social media, posting an image from her recent appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” along with the caption, “moments before Covid.” This announcement comes shortly after her decision to skip interviews at the New York premiere to support her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, who was unwell.

Ariana Grande’s COVID Diagnosis

As a consequence of testing positive, Grande will miss her scheduled taped appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where Erivo will now appear solo. Additionally, Grande will not participate in upcoming Q&A discussions about “Wicked: For Good.” In a related note, both actresses previously contracted COVID-19 during the filming of the first “Wicked” movie, with Erivo falling ill just days before filming “Defying Gravity” and Grande before shooting “Popular.”

Challenges During the Press Tour

The promotional tour for “Wicked: For Good” has faced several challenges since its launch earlier in the month. Grande was unable to attend the film’s premiere in Brazil. Furthermore, during the festivities in Singapore, an individual breached security by jumping the red carpet barricades, prompting Erivo to swiftly intervene to protect her co-star.

Box Office Expectations

Despite these setbacks, the film is projected to perform well at the box office. Variety’s Rebecca Rubin reported that “Wicked: For Good” is expected to generate between $150 million to $180 million from about 4,000 theaters in North America during its opening weekend. This anticipated revenue could make it the largest opening of the year, surpassing previous hits like “A Minecraft Movie” and the “Lilo & Stitch” remake.

Historical Significance

The original “Wicked” film adaptation achieved a remarkable feat by grossing $112.5 million during its debut, setting a record for stage-to-screen adaptations.

“Wicked: For Good” is set to hit theaters on November 21, promising audiences an exciting cinematic experience.
