HBO Renews ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ for Season 2

HBO has officially renewed its highly anticipated series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, for a second season scheduled to premiere in 2027. The announcement came from Casey Bloys, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, during a press event in New York.

Premiere Details

The first season is set to debut on January 18, 2026, marking a slight delay from the original schedule of late 2025. This change ensures the show avoids conflicts with the HBO-Sky partnership, which is ending soon. Consequently, the series will be available for the launch of HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.

Production Timeline

Following its green light in April 2023, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere almost three years later. In contrast, the second season aims to shrink this gap to just two years by debuting in 2027. The format of this series permits a quicker production turnaround compared to its predecessor, House of the Dragon, which typically releases new seasons every two years.

Season Structure

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Shorter seasons with six half-hour episodes.
  • House of the Dragon: Longer seasons consisting of 8-10 hourlong episodes.

Story Overview

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas. It takes place a century before the events of Game of Thrones and 72 years after House of the Dragon. The series follows two unlikely heroes: Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and his squire, Egg.

Production Team

The series is co-created by Martin and Ira Parker, with Parker serving as the showrunner. Executive producers include Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis, with direction by Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith.

Cast Highlights

The main cast includes:

  • Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall
  • Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg
  • Daniel Ings
  • Bertie Carvel
  • Sam Spruell
  • Others include: Danny Webb, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.

Looking Ahead

Alongside this renewal, HBO also announced an early renewal of House of the Dragon for its fourth season, set to premiere in 2028. The simultaneous development of both series highlights the continuing expansion of the Game of Thrones universe that fans have come to cherish.

As HBO gears up for a series of exciting seasons, it promises to deliver rich storytelling and dynamic character arcs, engaging audiences for years to come.
