Many took to platforms like X, sharing their fear and disbelief. One resident recalled, “I think I just experienced the most intense earthquake of my life; Kolkata was shuddering like a fragile plastic tunnel.” Another noted that the earthquake was powerful enough to wake them from sleep.

This earthquake follows a 5.2 magnitude quake that jolted Pakistan earlier the same day. According to the National Centre for Seismology, that earthquake had an epicenter located at a depth of 135 km.
