Kirk Cousins Anticipates Darnell Mooney’s Stellar Finish
The Atlanta Falcons are gearing up for an important game against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, but they may have to do so without their star wide receiver, Drake London. Head coach Raheem Morris acknowledged that London, who suffered a PCL injury in his left knee, will likely miss the game.
Drake London’s Injury Impact
London sustained his injury in the closing moments of the Falcons’ Week 11 loss to the Carolina Panthers. With only 26 seconds left in the game, he was unable to complete a third-down catch. As a result, he was ruled out during overtime.
- London’s Statistics:
- 60 receptions
- 810 yards
- 6 touchdowns
His absence will create a significant gap, as his receiving totals surpass the combined statistics of the other wide receivers on the team. Collectively, Darnell Mooney and other receivers have achieved only 35 receptions for 447 yards, with no touchdowns. “You’re definitely going to miss Drake,” Morris commented.
Darnell Mooney’s Role
Darnell Mooney has emerged as the next-best wide receiver for the Falcons, registering 224 yards on 16 receptions this season. After a breakout year in 2024, expectations for Mooney were high, especially after he joined the Falcons in the offseason.
However, injuries plagued his season. Mooney broke his collarbone during training camp, sidelining him for the preseason and the season opener. After returning, he faced further setbacks, including a hamstring injury that kept him out during Week 6.
Strengthening Connections
With Kirk Cousins stepping in as the starting quarterback for the Falcons, there is hope for Mooney to regain his form. Cousins praised Mooney’s tenacity and expressed a desire to see him excel in the remaining games of the season.
- Mooney’s Current Statistics:
- 16 receptions
- 224 yards
“It feels like Mooney is close,” said Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. With seven games left in the season, the Falcons are hopeful that Cousins can help dredge a remarkable performance from Mooney as they approach the final stretch.
