Facebook Dominates as Most Popular Social Media Among US Adults

In a recent report by the Pew Research Center, key insights into the social media habits of American adults have been unveiled. This report, based on surveys conducted in 2025, highlights the growing importance of social media platforms in daily life.

Facebook Dominates as Most Popular Social Media Among US Adults

According to the findings, Facebook continues to be a dominant force in the social media landscape. Approximately 71 percent of 5,022 surveyed adults reported using Facebook. Additionally, YouTube leads the pack with 84 percent usage, while Instagram garners 50 percent of users.

Other Social Media Platforms

While Facebook and YouTube show strong usage rates, other platforms struggle to capture significant attention. Despite Threads boasting 400 million monthly active users, only 8 percent of adults reported using it. The usage statistics for other platforms are as follows:

  • X (formerly Twitter): 21 percent
  • Bluesky: 4 percent
  • Truth Social: 3 percent

Frequency of Use

The report also explores how often adults engage with various social media platforms. The study reveals that:

  • 52 percent of adults log onto Facebook daily.
  • 37 percent access Facebook several times a day.
  • 48 percent use YouTube daily, with 33 percent watching multiple videos daily.

Notably, TikTok usage varies significantly by age, with 47 percent of adults aged 18 to 29 using it daily. In contrast, only 5 percent of adults aged 65 and older engage with TikTok every day.

Trends Over Time

The report indicates that both YouTube and Facebook have maintained steady usage patterns since 2021. Facebook, in particular, despite perceptions of stagnation, continues to attract a loyal user base that is growing consistently. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is actively working to enhance user experience, including recent updates to Facebook Marketplace.

The findings emphasize that Facebook remains at the forefront of social media use among US adults, even as other platforms vie for attention. The evolving landscape of social media continues to reflect the dynamic preferences of users across different demographics.
