UGA Expels OL Nyier Daniels Following Police Pursuit Involving Mother

In a significant decision, the University of Georgia (UGA) has expelled backup offensive lineman Nyier Daniels following a police pursuit incident. The dismissal came shortly after Daniels was apprehended for allegedly driving at excessive speeds while attempting to evade law enforcement.

Incident Overview

The incident unfolded on November 24, 2025, in Commerce, Georgia. Daniels reportedly drove over 150 miles per hour in a BMW M5 while fleeing from police. This reckless pursuit occurred with two of his younger siblings in the vehicle.

Charges Filed Against Daniels

Daniels faces serious legal consequences as he is charged with more than a dozen offenses, including:

  • Two felony counts of second-degree cruelty to children
  • Two felony counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
  • Ten additional traffic-related misdemeanors, including reckless driving and excessive speed

As of the arrest, he is being held on a $21,000 bond in Jackson County Jail, located in Jefferson, Georgia.

Mother’s Involvement

Brandi Canada-Green, Daniels’ mother, was also involved in the incident. Police reports indicate that she was initially stopped for running a stop sign while driving a Nissan Rogue. During this stop, Daniels sped past the officer at over 100 mph in a designated 25 mph zone.

Attempts to apprehend both Canada-Green and Daniels escalated. Eventually, her vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 mph while fleeing law enforcement. Canada-Green faces charges, including:

  • One felony count of attempting to elude a police officer
  • Five misdemeanors, including willful obstruction of law enforcement and reckless driving

Statements from Authorities

UGA head coach Kirby Smart commented on the situation, stating, “I have not had a chance to talk to him or his family, but obviously he will no longer be with us.”

During the pursuit, Canada-Green reportedly urged her children to return to Commerce, which did not prevent their dangerous escape attempt. Officers noted the strong odor of marijuana in Daniels’ vehicle when he turned himself in.

Background on Nyier Daniels

Daniels was a notable recruit from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey. He had been a reserve player in UGA’s previous games this season against teams such as Marshall and Austin Peay.

The legal consequences and severe charges against both Daniels and Canada-Green underscore the seriousness of their actions, placing them in a challenging legal scenario amid a high-speed pursuit involving minors.
