Greg Olson to Lead Raiders’ Offensive Play Calls

The Las Vegas Raiders have appointed Greg Olson as their new offensive play-caller following recent coaching changes. Head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the decision on Monday. Olson, previously serving as the quarterbacks coach, will now handle the offensive play calls for the remainder of the season.

Background on Coaching Changes

This move comes after the Raiders’ disappointing 24-10 defeat to the Cleveland Browns, which led to the firing of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. The team’s offensive struggles have been apparent, as they currently rank 31st in the league in points scored.

Greg Olson’s Experience

This is not Olson’s first time in the Raiders’ offensive coordinator role. He held this position during two previous tenures:

  • 2013-2014
  • 2018-2021

In addition to his time with the Raiders, Olson has worked with several other teams. His experience includes roles with:

  • Detroit Lions
  • St. Louis Rams
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Jacksonville Jaguars

Further Coaching Changes

In addition to firing Kelly, the Raiders made other adjustments to their coaching staff. They also terminated senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell after the loss to the Browns. Earlier this month, special teams coordinator Tom McMahon was also let go.

Future Direction

Despite the changes, Coach Pete Carroll stated that no further alterations are anticipated within his coaching staff. The Raiders will look to Olson to revitalize their offensive strategy as they move forward in the season.
