Trump Amplifies Overseas MAGA X Accounts
A recent development on the social media platform X indicates that several prominent MAGA accounts are managed by individuals located outside the United States. Since the exposure of these accounts, former President Donald Trump has continued to promote them.
Overseas MAGA Accounts on X
These accounts, which boast significant followings, often claim to represent conservative views in Texas or promote an “America First” agenda. However, investigations have revealed that their operators are situated in various countries, including:
- Chile
- Nigeria
- Russia
- Eastern Europe
Many of these accounts focus on divisive topics such as immigration, gender issues, and relations with Israel. One notable example is a verified account named MAGA NATION, which has approximately 400,000 followers and features the American flag in its profile. This account was found to be run from a non-EU country in Eastern Europe.
Notable Accounts and Their Origins
Some of these accounts use names associated with the Trump family. An Ivanka Trump news account, for instance, had over 1 million followers but was based in Nigeria and has since been suspended.
On a recent Saturday, Trump shared a screenshot from an account named “Fan Trump Army,” which has over 500,000 followers. This account, which uses an image of Trump as its profile picture, is reportedly operated from India. It has attracted followers who were involved in the January 6 Capitol riots, including Michael Flynn.
Interestingly, the account’s bio was modified to state, “An Indian who loves America, President Trump, Musk!” prior to which it did not reveal its Indian operator.
Controversial Posts and Reactions
In another instance, Trump highlighted a post from the verified account “Commentary Donald J. Trump.” This post posed the question of whether foreign-born citizens should be forbidden from holding political office. It featured images of Democratic representatives Ilhan Omar and Omar Fateh.
The account appears to be run from a location in Africa, although specific countries are not always identified by X. Following Trump’s post, numerous users expressed support for banning foreign-born individuals from political office and made calls for deportation of Omar and Fateh.
