Tornado Strikes Houston Amid Thunderstorms, Reports National Weather Service
A tornado swept through northwest Houston on November 24, 2025, coinciding with a line of thunderstorms. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado touched down in the Willowbrook area, particularly near the intersection of State Highway 249 and Grant Road.
Tornado Warnings and Storm Effects in Houston
Cameron Self, a meteorologist with the Houston and Galveston office of the National Weather Service, noted that spotters observed signs of rotation in the radar. “There’s also evidence on radar that maybe there was a little bit of debris,” he reported just before 2 p.m.
Later that afternoon, authorities issued tornado warnings for areas in northwestern Harris and southwestern Montgomery counties. Residents took to social media, sharing images of the aftermath, which included downed trees and damaged homes.
Damage and Power Outages
- More than 100 homes were reported damaged in the Spring area.
- CenterPoint Energy reported over 20,000 homes and businesses lost power during the storm.
- A tornado was also reported near the Jersey Village area.
Lena Dziechowski, lead meteorology specialist at CenterPoint, emphasized the ongoing monitoring of the situation. She warned that additional storms were expected that evening, which could bring strong wind gusts and lightning.
Weather Warnings and Forecasts
The tornado watch remained in effect for Harris, Galveston, Fort Bend, Montgomery counties, and 25 others until late Monday night. Areas north of Interstate 10 faced the highest risk of severe weather.
Self described the primary threats, stating, “The primary concerns are going to be large hail, damaging wind gusts and even the potential for a few tornadoes.”
Future Weather Outlook
As storms were forecasted to continue through Monday night, the probability of rain was estimated at 80%. Self indicated that while localized flash flooding might occur in poorly drained areas, overall rainfall would be manageable due to recent drought conditions.
Expect clearer skies on Tuesday, with forecasts predicting sunshine until Friday. High temperatures are anticipated in the 60s, while lows may drop to the 40s. “By tomorrow, this is out of here,” Self stated regarding the severe weather.
