Hernandez’s body was discovered on September 8, one day before what would have been her 15th birthday. The Tesla in which she was found had been impounded in Hollywood, and authorities believe she had been deceased for several weeks prior to the discovery. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office identified the remains as those of Rivas but indicated that the cause of death remains “deferred” due to severe decomposition.
