CSU to Appoint UConn’s Mora as New Head Coach

Colorado State University (CSU) is poised to appoint Jim Mora, currently the head coach at the University of Connecticut (UConn), as its next head coach. This transition is expected to take place soon, according to sources familiar with the decision.

Jim Mora’s Coaching Achievements at UConn

Diving into Mora’s coaching tenure at UConn, he has achieved remarkable success. Over the past four years, he has guided the team to three bowl appearances. Prior to his arrival, UConn participated in only one bowl game in the preceding eleven years.

Significantly, Mora led UConn to back-to-back nine-win seasons, marking the first time the school has achieved such a milestone since 2007. During the 2025 season, UConn posted a 9-3 record and secured victories against notable ACC teams, including Duke and Boston College.

Colorado State Football Landscape

As CSU transitions into this new chapter, the university aims to enhance its standing within college athletics. The school recently appointed new athletic director John Weber, who is focused on establishing Colorado State as a top contender among Group of 5 schools.

Mora’s entry marks the fourth coaching change for Colorado State since 2019. The university has seen a revolving door approach to leadership, following stints with coaches Mike Bobo, Steve Addazio, and Jay Norvell, who was dismissed mid-season during his fourth year.

Mora has a robust background in coaching, including six seasons as the head coach at UCLA.
During his UCLA tenure, he achieved eight or more wins in four of those six seasons.
He holds a 73-53 overall record across ten seasons as a college head coach.
Mora also has experience as an NFL head coach with teams in Seattle and Atlanta, along with many years as an assistant and coordinator in the NFL.
