Teams and Drivers Confirm Tyres for 2025 Qatar Grand Prix
As the Qatar Grand Prix approaches, Pirelli has unveiled the tyre compounds available for teams and drivers. The event, which takes place at the Lusail International Circuit, will utilize specific tyre types designed to handle the unique challenges of the track.
Tyre Compounds and Usage for the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix
- Tyre Types:
- C1 – Hard (white markings)
- C2 – Medium (yellow markings)
- C3 – Soft (red markings)
- Additional Tyres:
- Green Intermediate Tyres
- Blue Full Wets
This Grand Prix features a Sprint format. Therefore, teams will receive 12 sets of tyres instead of the standard 13. This includes:
- 2 sets of hard tyres
- 4 sets of medium tyres
- 6 sets of soft tyres
Pirelli has implemented a critical measure. Each set of tyres can cover a maximum of 25 laps during the race weekend. This limit responds to the high demands placed on tyres at the Lusail track. These demands include energy input, thermal stress, and wear.
Rules for Tyre Usage
The tyre usage regulations are comprehensive:
- 25-lap maximum per set, across all sessions.
- Laps completed under Safety Car or Virtual Safety Car count towards the 25-lap limit.
- Laps to the grid, formation laps, and laps after the chequered flag do not count.
Given that the Qatar Grand Prix consists of 57 laps, drivers are expected to change tyres at least twice during the race. Pirelli will inform teams about the remaining laps for each tyre set before the Grand Prix begins.
This decision follows a thorough analysis of tyre performance from the previous season. Last year’s races revealed significant wear, especially on the left front tyre, highlighting the need for these new measures. Pirelli’s insights aim to enhance tire durability while addressing both lateral energy and structural fatigue.
