Fantilli and Jenner Postpone Contract Negotiations Until February

The Columbus Blue Jackets are currently focused on their ongoing season, navigating a competitive playoff race in the Eastern Conference. Consequently, contract negotiations for key players Boone Jenner and Adam Fantilli have been postponed until February.

Contract Negotiation Delays

General Manager Don Waddell confirmed that discussions regarding contract extensions for the team’s captain, Boone Jenner, and rising star Adam Fantilli, will resume during the Winter Olympic break. This decision allows the team to prioritize their gameplay as they seek playoff positioning.

Current Status of Players

  • Boone Jenner: The team captain has a cap hit of $3.75 million. In 16 games this season, he has recorded three goals and seven assists for a total of 10 points. Jenner is in the last year of a four-year, $15 million contract.
  • Adam Fantilli: The 21-year-old forward has made a significant impact with nine goals and eight assists in 23 games, totaling 17 points. His three-year entry-level contract is set to expire next summer.

Future Plans

Waddell emphasized the importance of addressing contract negotiations when the timing is more appropriate. He noted that both players and their representatives have agreed to pause talks for the time being.

If opportunities arise to enhance the team’s performance before the Olympic break, Waddell has expressed readiness to make strategic moves. He emphasized the club’s commitment to improvement, stating, “If there is a move that we feel would make us better right now, we would certainly be able to pull the trigger.”

As the Columbus Blue Jackets aim for a strong season, they will keep an eye on future contracts while focusing on their goal of clinching a playoff spot.
