An Illinois-based company has initiated a recall of two chocolate products due to undeclared allergens, as announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products were sold in pouch bags and distributed at Aldi stores nationwide. The recall was issued after it was discovered that the pecan product was mistakenly packaged with cookie butter, leading to the undeclared inclusion of pecans. Conversely, the cookie butter product was found within the pecan packaging, which resulted in undeclared wheat.
Health Risks Associated with the Recall
Tree nuts like pecans and wheat are among the nine major food allergens identified by law. The FDA warns that individuals allergic to these ingredients are at risk for severe reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can lead to life-threatening complications.
The FDA reported no illnesses attributed to the recalled products as of November 26. However, allergic reactions to undeclared allergens can vary significantly in severity, potentially leading to serious health issues.
