Ex-Boyfriend of Slain Guard Member Unveils Harrowing Details of Her Deployment

Ex-boyfriend Adam Carr has shared insights into the experiences of National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom before her tragic death. Beckstrom was deployed to Washington, D.C., where she expressed feelings of frustration about her role and the limitations on her responsibilities. Just days before her fatal shooting, she described her deployment as “pointless.”

Deployment Challenges Faced by Sarah Beckstrom

In an interview, Carr revealed that Beckstrom felt constrained by the restrictions that governed her actions as a Guardsman. “It was mixed,” he explained. Beckstrom and other members were officially deputized but were given “no rights to do anything.”

Frustrations in the Field

Beckstrom frequently spoke about confrontations with local residents. Carr recounted her experiences, stating, “People spit towards us, cuss at us, throw things at us, and we can’t do nothing.” Guardsmen were instructed to call the police rather than intervene, which added to her frustration.

Despite these challenges, Beckstrom remained committed to her mission. Carr recalled her dedication: “She wanted to make a difference.” However, she questioned the effectiveness of the mission when her ability to act was so limited. “Crime is bad, but it’s pointless if we can’t do anything,” she would say.

Tragic Event and Aftermath

On Thanksgiving Eve, Beckstrom and fellow Guardsman Andrew Wolfe were shot near the White House. Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries the following night, surrounded by her family. Wolfe is currently in critical condition.

Arrest and Reactions

A 29-year-old Afghan immigrant, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has been arrested in connection with the shootings. In response to Beckstrom’s death, President Donald Trump conveyed his condolences, acknowledging her as a “highly respected, young, magnificent person.”

  • Beckstrom started her service in June 2023.
  • She volunteered for deployment during the Thanksgiving period.

Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi also highlighted Beckstrom’s commitment and bravery in her service. The community mourns her loss, remembering her dedication to duty and the sacrifices made by those in uniform.
