Texas Secures First 2027 Commitment with 5-Star WR Royal
Texas has made a significant move in its 2027 recruiting efforts by securing a commitment from five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. The announcement came on November 29, 2025, shortly after Royal visited the Longhorns during their game against Texas A&M. He is ranked as the No. 3 wide receiver in the ESPN Junior 300 and stands 6 feet tall, weighing 195 pounds.
Easton Royal’s Commitment Details
Royal hails from New Orleans and plays at Brother Martin High School. In the 2025 fall season, he recorded impressive statistics, including:
- 53 receptions
- 1,151 receiving yards
- 17 touchdowns
His commitment makes him the first member of Texas’s 2027 recruiting class. He chose Texas over competitive offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Oregon, and several other Power 4 programs.
Recruiting Landscape for Texas
The Longhorns are concurrently finalizing their 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked seventh in ESPN’s class rankings. Additionally, Texas hosted two noteworthy prospects on the same day as Royal’s commitment:
- Jamarion Carlton, a Baylor defensive end pledge ranked No. 96 overall
- Toray Davis, a three-star safety committed to UCLA
Texas is also pursuing two top 100 prospects from LSU ahead of the early signing period. These players are:
- Brysten Martinez, offensive tackle (No. 84 ranking)
- Richard Anderson, defensive tackle (No. 90 ranking)
With Royal’s commitment, the Texas Longhorns continue to build a robust recruiting pipeline for future seasons while enhancing their offensive capabilities for the 2027 cycle.
