Limp Bizkit Honors Sam Rivers with Return and New Bassist
Limp Bizkit returned to the stage on November 29, 2025, marking their first performance since the death of co-founding bassist Sam Rivers on October 18, 2025. Rivers’ untimely passing shocked fans and musicians alike, adding to a difficult year for metal music, which also lost icons like Ozzy Osbourne and Brent Hinds.
Although the official cause of Rivers’ death remains undisclosed, a police report provided some insights into the matter. His bandmates at Limp Bizkit paid tribute to him, describing him as “the pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.” The band chose to honor Rivers with their concert at Estadio Fray Nano in Mexico City, Mexico.
Limp Bizkit’s Tribute to Sam Rivers
During this emotional night, Kid Not, also known as Richie Buxton, filled in on bass for Rivers. Buxton is a collaborator of Ecca Vandal, the opening act of the tour. Limp Bizkit’s frontman, Fred Durst, participated in Ecca Vandal’s set by providing guest vocals for her 2025 single “Cruising To Self Soothe.”
Before commencing their headlining performance, the band aired a video tribute showcasing Rivers’ contributions and memories. Drummer John Otto shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing his grief and reflecting on their shared experiences. Otto stated, “Today is going to be tough. A first I never wanted to experience. We’re going to honor the life you lived and the love you spread with every show we play.”
