‘Sonic’ Spinoff and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Movies Premiere in 2028
Paramount Pictures has exciting news for fans of animated and superhero films. In 2028, two highly anticipated titles will hit theaters: an untitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and a Sonic Universe Event Film.
Release Dates for Upcoming Movies
Paramount has scheduled the release of the new projects:
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: November 17, 2028
- Sonic Universe Event Film: December 22, 2028
Producers and Production Details
The details surrounding both films remain largely undisclosed. However, producer Neal H. Moritz is at the helm for both projects. Moritz is well-known for his work on the successful Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The upcoming installment of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will feature a family-friendly live-action and CG animation hybrid format. This film marks the first live-action entry since 2016’s poorly received Out of the Shadows.
In recent years, the franchise leaned into animation with the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in 2023, which achieved moderate success. A sequel, titled Mutant Mayhem 2, is slated for September 17, 2027.
Sonic Universe Events
The new Sonic Universe Event Film is unrelated to the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4, set for release on March 19, 2027. The Sonic franchise has established itself as a vital asset for Paramount, with the three previous films earning over $1 billion worldwide.
Looking Back at Top Gun
In addition to these exciting releases, Paramount will re-release Top Gun to commemorate its 40th anniversary. This influential film, which debuted in 1986, grossed $357.4 million and showcased the story of Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise. The sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, became Paramount’s highest-grossing film ever, earning $1.49 billion worldwide.
