Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Lawyers Demand Netflix Halt Docuseries Over ‘Stolen’ Footage
Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a major controversy as his legal team has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix. This action comes just as the streaming giant is set to release a docuseries titled “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” produced by his rival, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
Allegations of Unauthorized Footage
In the letter, Combs’ lawyers accuse Netflix of utilizing “stolen footage” without authorization. A spokesperson for Combs described the upcoming docuseries as a “shameful hit piece.” This footage was recently showcased in Netflix’s trailer, which was unveiled on Monday.
Documentary Background
According to Juda Engelmayer, a representative for Combs, the footage in question was filmed just six days prior to Combs’ arrest in September 2024. Combs has been documenting his life since he was 19, aiming to create his own film, which he considers integral to telling his story authentically.
Legal Battles Ahead
Engelmayer mentioned that neither Combs nor his team have previewed the docuseries. “We will see it tonight,” he stated, highlighting the lack of cooperation from Netflix and Jackson regarding a screener for the docuseries.
Netflix’s Response
In response to the allegations, Netflix’s director of the docuseries, Alexandra Stapleton, claimed that all footage was obtained legally. She emphasized the team’s commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of their sources while asserting the rights to the footage.
Combs’ Legal Troubles
In addition to his current battles with Netflix, Combs is navigating significant legal issues. He was sentenced to 50 months in prison earlier this summer after being convicted on two counts related to prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking. Currently, he is appealing his conviction.
- Sentenced to 50 months (roughly four years) in summer 2023.
- Acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering.
- Facing around 70 civil lawsuits claiming sexual assault and drugging.
Overall, Combs and his legal team express their discontent with both the docuseries and the involvement of Jackson, who they view as an adversary with a vendetta against Combs. The situation continues to develop as both parties prepare for potential legal confrontations.
