KU Basketball Guard Darryn Peterson Sidelined by Injury Against UConn
Freshman guard Darryn Peterson will not participate in the upcoming match against the No. 5 ranked UConn. Kansas coach Bill Self confirmed the news, stating Peterson is “very close” to returning but not yet at full strength.
Darryn Peterson’s Ongoing Injury Status
This game marks the seventh consecutive game Peterson has missed due to a hamstring strain. Although he returned to practice late last week, he was held out as a precaution. Coach Self explained that Peterson would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis regarding his readiness to play.
Team Performance Without Peterson
Since Peterson’s absence, the Jayhawks have achieved a 5-1 record. Notably, Kansas is enjoying a three-game winning streak, recently finishing third at the Players Era tournament held in Las Vegas. This success has earned the team an additional $300,000 in NIL compensation.
The last time Peterson took the court was on November 7 against UNC, where he delivered a strong performance, scoring 22 points and recording three rebounds. Despite the loss in that game, his contributions were evident.
Looking Ahead
There was a sense of optimism regarding Peterson’s potential return for the upcoming game. However, the next opportunity for him to play will be on Sunday, December 7, against Missouri. Peterson, who is projected as the No. 1 pick in the next NBA Draft, has participated in only two games this season.
Previous Challenges
- Peterson faced a cramping issue that limited his early-season participation.
- He missed a game against Fort Hays State and had restricted minutes against Louisville.
- Coach Self indicated that the cramping might be linked to his current hamstring strain.
The match against UConn is scheduled for 8 PM on Tuesday and will be broadcast on ESPN2, marking another significant event for the Jayhawks as they look to continue their strong performance in the season.
