Dave Coulier Faces Diagnosis of Second Cancer Type

Dave Coulier, known for his role as Joey in “Full House,” has recently received a diagnosis of a second cancer type. This announcement comes just seven months after he finished treatment for stage-three non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Diagnosis of Second Cancer Type

On December 2, Coulier spoke to the Today show about his condition. He revealed that following a PET scan, doctors discovered an abnormality at the base of his tongue. Further tests confirmed he has P16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, a form of tongue cancer.

Unrelated to Previous Cancer

Coulier emphasized that this new diagnosis is unrelated to his earlier battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Expressing his disbelief, he said, “Are you kidding me?” However, he remains hopeful. “We found it early enough where it’s very treatable,” he stated, highlighting the 90 percent curability rate associated with this type of cancer.

Treatment and Prognosis

The actor is undergoing treatment, which is expected to continue until the end of the year. Physicians have advised immediate radiation therapy to address the new cancer effectively, and Coulier has received reassuring news about his prognosis.

Support from Full House Castmates

Coulier has received tremendous support from his former “Full House” co-stars. He recently celebrated completing his treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma alongside them. He noted how they maintain their connection through group texts and video calls. “John [Stamos] FaceTimes me like every day. We’re very close,” he shared.

Advocacy for Early Detection

Since publicly revealing his diagnosis on November 24, Coulier has become an advocate for cancer testing and early detection. He remarked on the irony that his experience with one cancer led to the detection of another. “The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer,” he concluded.
