Florida Appoints Georgia Tech’s Buster Faulkner as Offensive Coordinator
The Florida Gators are set to welcome Buster Faulkner as their new offensive coordinator. This confirmation comes from Gator Country, following an initial report by Chris Low of On3.
Buster Faulkner’s Coaching Background
Buster Faulkner has spent the last three seasons at Georgia Tech, fulfilling roles as both offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. During his tenure, he was the primary play caller for the Yellow Jackets.
In 2025, Faulkner led an offense that ranked 12th nationally in yards per game and 28th in points scored. His strategic guidance helped place Georgia Tech in the top half of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) across multiple offensive categories:
- Rushing: 1st in 2023, 2nd in 2024
- Total offense: 3rd in 2023, 6th in 2024
- Scoring: 4th in 2023, 8th in 2024
- Passing efficiency: 5th in 2023, 8th in 2024
Success with Quarterbacks
Throughout his coaching career, Faulkner has shown an ability to develop quarterbacks effectively. At Southern Miss in 2019, he helped quarterback Jack Abraham throw for an impressive 3,496 yards. His time at Arkansas State (2016-2018) also showcased his prowess; quarterback Justice Hansen surpassed 3,400 passing yards in two seasons, with a career-high of 3,967 yards in 2017.
Faulkner’s adaptability is evident, as he has successfully managed dual-threat quarterbacks, such as Haynes King at Georgia Tech. His background includes experience with air raid offenses, highlighting his versatility in coaching styles.
Achievements and Recognition
Faulkner’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. He is among the 15 semifinalists for the prestigious 2025 Broyles Award, honoring the top assistant coach in college football.
Before his association with Georgia Tech, Faulkner contributed to Georgia from 2020-2022, where he celebrated two National Championships with the Bulldogs. Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett attributes much of his development to Faulkner’s coaching.
