Versant Acquires Fandango FAST Channel, Expands Free TV Networks

Versant is set to expand its footprint in the free streaming market by acquiring key players in the industry. With the anticipated completion of its separation from NBCUniversal in January, Versant announced two significant acquisitions during an investor presentation.

Acquisitions to Enhance Free TV Networks

The company has acquired Free TV Networks, which operates various digital broadcast and FAST channels, including 365BLK, Defy, and Outlaw. This move aims to strengthen Versant’s television offerings.

As part of the acquisition, Jonathan Katz, the president and CEO of Free TV Networks, will join Versant. He will oversee operations for the networks and free streaming channels while reporting to David Pietrycha, Versant’s chief revenue and business officer.

Strategic Goals of Versant

Mark Lazarus, CEO of Versant, emphasized the company’s focus on growth. He stated, “Our agreement with Free TV Networks reflects our commitment to expanding the range of services and experiences we offer.”

In addition to acquiring Free TV Networks, Versant plans to introduce a FAST service on its Fandango at Home platform. This initiative is anticipated to launch in the second half of 2026. Currently, Fandango at Home offers movie rentals and purchases.

INDY Cinema Group Acquisition

Versant is also acquiring INDY Cinema Group to enhance its B2B capabilities. This acquisition will allow Fandango to expand its online ticketing services into broader areas of theater management, such as concessions and marketing.

Will McIntosh, president of digital platforms and ventures at Versant, praised INDY for setting a high standard for cinema operations. He expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that it would strengthen support for nearly 3,000 cinema partners across the U.S.

A New Era for Fandango

With the combined forces of Fandango and INDY, Versant aims to create a new global standard for cinema management. This integration will position them as the digital backbone of modern film exhibition.

  • Acquisition of Free TV Networks and INDY Cinema Group
  • Launch of FAST service on Fandango at Home in 2026
  • Expansion of services to nearly 3,000 cinema partners

Versant’s strategic vision reflects its commitment to enhancing its market presence and offering innovative solutions in the evolving entertainment landscape.
