Prometeo Enhances Payment Verification with New Name Match Feature
Prometeo, a FinTech infrastructure provider based in Latin America, has launched a new feature called Name Match. This feature is integrated into its U.S. Bank Account Verification API and serves to enhance payment verification. Its primary goal is to improve pre-payment checks and minimize errors in account-based transfers.
Name Match Functionality
Name Match performs an essential function by comparing the name provided by the payee with the registered name on the destination account. The feature returns four possible outcomes:
- Match
- Partial Match
- No Match
- No Data
This capability relies on verified data from banking networks and helps institutions conduct risk assessments with their existing payment decision systems.
The Need for Improved Payment Verification
As U.S. payment volumes soar, with ACH transfers reaching $23.2 trillion in the third quarter of 2025, the importance of accurate ownership validation becomes increasingly clear. A recent report found that 79% of organizations experienced fraud attempts last year. In this context, financial institutions are prioritizing measures to prevent misdirected payments and operational losses.
Expert Insights
Ximena Aleman, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo, emphasized the necessity of verifying account ownership. She stated, “Verifying that an account exists is no longer enough. Financial institutions also need confidence in who likely owns the account.” The Name Match feature provides this clarity without compromising the efficiency of high-volume payment operations.
Guidelines and Compliance
The launch of Name Match aligns with the recommendations of Nacha, which advocates for account-validation checks and pre-payment due diligence for ACH transactions. This feature enables businesses to:
- Route partial matches for further review
- Block transactions when no match is identified
- Automate decisions on onboarding, vendor payouts, and treasury disbursements
Scalable Infrastructure
Prometeo positions Name Match as a scalable alternative to traditional login-based verification methods, which can be cumbersome for batch processing. The feature allows for account-owner evaluation through API inputs, streamlining operations without the need for user logins.
Rodrigo Tumaian, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, remarked, “Enterprises need infrastructure that works behind the scenes at scale.” With Name Match, businesses can verify thousands of accounts efficiently, maintaining smooth operational flows.
Future Developments
Prometeo initially launched its U.S. verification API in 2024 to facilitate a single integration across U.S. and Latin American banking sectors. The introduction of Name Match enhances its commitment to providing ownership-aware payment infrastructure suited for various workflows including payouts and treasury management.
