Nikola Tsolov, Kush Maini Penalized Post Yas Marina Qualifying Session
Following the recent FIA Formula 2 Qualifying session at Yas Marina, penalties have been issued to two drivers. Campos Racing’s Nikola Tsolov and DAMS driver Kush Maini faced repercussions for separate incidents during the session.
Nikola Tsolov’s Penalty
Nikola Tsolov, representing Campos Racing, received a three-place grid penalty. This penalty resulted from an incident where he allegedly impeded Luke Browning of Hitech TGR. The incident occurred at Turn 9 during the Qualifying session.
After reviewing video evidence and hearing from both drivers and their teams, the Stewards concluded that Tsolov could have taken measures to avoid obstructing Browning. Consequently, Tsolov’s penalties will affect both the Sprint and Feature Races, in accordance with Article 31.6 of the Formula 2 Sporting Regulations.
Kush Maini’s Technical Breach
Kush Maini’s situation stems from a post-session inspection by the Technical Delegate. He was referred to the Stewards for a potential violation of Article 24.1 of the FIA Formula 2 Sporting Regulations. The examination revealed that Maini had fitted the rear tyres of his second set incorrectly.
Due to this error, all lap times recorded by Maini on that second set of tyres were invalidated. As a result, he finished the Yas Marina Qualifying session in P20 in the overall classification.
Summary of Penalties
- Nikola Tsolov: Three-place grid penalty for impeding Luke Browning.
- Kush Maini: Times deleted due to incorrect tyre fitting, finishing in P20.
This series of penalties highlights the importance of adhering to regulations in the competitive environment of Formula 2 racing.
