SAQ Launches Initiative to Support Food Banks

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) has launched a significant initiative to support food banks across the province. This campaign is critical as the number of individuals and families relying on food assistance continues to rise monthly.

SAQ Initiative to Support Food Banks

Beginning today and running through December 10, the SAQ will donate two meals to food banks for every “Origine Québec” product sold in its stores. Customers eager to further assist can also make direct donations at the checkout.

Rising Food Insecurity

Food insecurity affects a broad spectrum of the population. In regions served by Moisson Beauce, significant statistics highlight the growing need:

  • 6,323 people receive monthly food assistance, an 8% increase from last year.
  • One-third of the requests for help involve children.
  • 25% of those assisted are employed but struggle to make ends meet.
  • Nearly half of the food assistance recipients are single adults.

Marie Champagne, the general director of Moisson Beauce, emphasized the importance of community support during the holiday season. “Every act of solidarity matters. This SAQ campaign positively impacts our region, enabling us to continue our mission and provide comfort to families facing tough times,” she stated.

Conclusion

The SAQ’s initiative is part of a broader effort to combat food insecurity in Quebec. By encouraging purchases of local products, the campaign aims to foster community well-being while directly aiding those in need.
