Tom Fletcher, the lead singer of the band McFly, is determined to give his children a “normal” childhood, something he feels he missed out on. While attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School as a child provided him with enriching experiences, he believes it also took away some of the joys typically associated with being a kid.

He stated, “I grew up going to theatre school and singing and dancing professionally as a kid.” While acknowledging the incredible opportunities that arose from this experience, he expressed that it stripped away the spontaneity and joy of simply enjoying activities for fun.
Prioritizing Outdoor Activities
As a father of three, including 11-year-old Buzz, nine-year-old Buddy, and seven-year-old Max, Fletcher is keen on ensuring his children enjoy their childhoods. He remarked on the differences between their upbringing and his own, noting the significant absence of social media during his formative years. “I want them out climbing trees and on bikes,” he said. Fletcher believes that such activities provide valuable life lessons that extend beyond structured environments.
Buzz’s Musical Creativity
Fletcher’s eldest son, Buzz, has shown a keen interest in music from a young age. By seven, he started rewriting his father’s songs, offering fresh perspectives that Fletcher finds both impressive and daunting. “Kids don’t have a filter, which is brilliant yet terrifying,” he reflected. Buzz frequently returns to his father with creative ideas, making the songwriting process an interactive and delightful experience.
