University of Wolverhampton Alumni Reunite Across UK After 50 Years
A group of University of Wolverhampton alumni reunited to commemorate 50 years since their student days. This special gathering, organized by alumna Anne Connolly (née Simpson), took place over a weekend and drew participants from various parts of the UK, including Cornwall and Newcastle.
Alumni Return to Wolverhampton
The reunion brought together five friends who first met in the mid-1970s while residing in university accommodations. Initially, they lived at Brinsford Lodge, located near Featherstone, before moving to Lomas Street Halls of Residence on the City Campus.
Celebrating Nostalgia
During their weekend visit, the group enjoyed an afternoon tour of the City Campus and revisited The Halls, where they had spent their student years. They also explored the city center, rediscovering its pubs, eateries, and significant landmarks.
Anne, who pursued a BA in Humanities from 1975 to 1978, shared her sentiments about returning to Wolverhampton. She noted that the area around the railway station had transformed significantly since her time as a student. “It was great taking the journey back to Wolverhampton,” she remarked. “Although the area around the railway station was unrecognizable, it stirred vivid memories of my student days.”
Modern Facilities and Memories
The alumni were particularly impressed by the modern facilities and striking architecture at the City Campus. Anne commented on the Wulfruna Building’s marble entrance and the superb learning environment. “Every building is really impressive,” she stated, reminiscing about the library and the bar at the Students’ Union.
Reflecting on her time at Lomas Street Halls, she expressed fondness for the luxurious rooms compared to Brinsford. “The time spent at Brinsford remains one of my happiest memories,” she added. “It was a unique environment in the middle of nowhere.”
Reconnecting and Sharing Memories
The weekend was not solely about revisiting structures; it was also a chance to reconnect with friends. Anne expressed joy in meeting her fellow alumni. “We had a great afternoon and evening, sharing photos, memories, and a lot of laughs,” she reflected.
The alumni reunion served as a heartwarming reminder of the bonds formed during their university years and the lasting impact of their experiences at the University of Wolverhampton.
