A significant windstorm swept through the Chilliwack region on December 8, 2025, leading to multiple power outages. As strong winds accompanied by rain struck the area, local utilities faced significant challenges.
Power Outages in Chilliwack
The windstorm began impacting the region around 4:05 p.m., resulting in power disruptions for over 800 BC Hydro customers. The affected areas included parts of Fairfield Island and Rosedale, specifically along Camp River Road. Crews were dispatched to address these outages, with an expected arrival time of 5:15 p.m.
Additional Outages in Cultus Lake

While attending to the outages, emergency teams were also dispatched to Majuba Hill. There, downed wires were reported across a road, affecting fewer than five customers. The storm’s impact was felt throughout the region, highlighting the need for swift emergency responses.
Wind Warnings and Highway Alerts
Environment Canada issued a wind warning earlier on the same day. Winds were expected to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h throughout the night. This severe weather prompted five highway alerts across the following routes:
- Sea to Sky Highway
- Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna

As the storm continued, authorities urged residents to exercise caution while traveling. The combination of strong winds and rain created hazardous conditions on the roads.
