Sheinelle Jones, Jenna Bush Hager to Co-Host ‘Today’ Show

Sheinelle Jones and Jenna Bush Hager will co-host the upcoming fourth hour of NBC’s popular morning show, the “Today” show. Starting in January, the program will be rebranded as “Today With Jenna & Sheinelle.” Jones is currently a co-host of the show’s third hour and has been there since January 2019.

Sheinelle Jones: A New Chapter

Sheinelle Jones, who has been a dedicated figure at NBC since 2014, previously anchored the weekend editions of the “Today” show until 2019. As she steps into this new role, she will become the first Black co-host of the show’s fourth hour. This position was previously filled by notable personalities such as Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Hoda Kotb.

Emotional Announcement

The announcement was made by Jenna Bush Hager during the December 9 episode of “Today.” She expressed her excitement, stating, “I am so thrilled to announce I have found my forever friend and we are gonna start a brand-new journey in January.” Hager emphasized Jones’ prowess as a broadcaster and her alignment with the show’s values.

Jones’ Journey

Sheinelle Jones shared her emotional journey leading up to this role. Referring to the passing of her husband, Uche Ojeh, she noted how meaningful this new opportunity feels to her. “It feels divine… He’s up there with God,” Jones reflected, indicating that she believes in his spirit encouraging her success.

Show Transition and Hosts

The fourth hour of the “Today” show has been in transition following the departure of Hoda Kotb in January. Kotb had been a key figure for 17 years, and since her exit, the show has featured a rotating lineup under the title “Jenna & Friends.”

  • Previous hosts included Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer, and Michelle Buteau.
  • Over 40 different personalities have co-hosted with Hager since Kotb’s departure.

Jones and Hager first co-hosted together in September and had a strong connection, with Hager promising to bring Jones back for future segments. As they prepare for this new chapter, viewers can look forward to their dynamic chemistry on “Today With Jenna & Sheinelle.”
