2023-24 Poll Findings
In the latest player survey, Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins topped the list with 24.3 percent of votes. He is followed by Brad Marchand, who garnered 19.6 percent, and Matthew Tkachuk, who secured 10.3 percent.
Feedback from players reveals some strong sentiments about these players:
- “I can’t stand him,” regarding Cousins.
- “Little rat,” said about Marchand.
- “Matthew is an ahole in front of the net,” described Tkachuk.
Wilson’s Changing Role
Two seasons ago, Wilson received a mention in the poll. However, this year he was not cited, likely due to his evolving approach to gameplay. He has reduced his fighting frequency, not exceeding five fights in a season since 2021-22. Previously, he had over ten fights in three seasons.
Wilson, now 31 years old, has not faced a suspension since the 2020-21 season, although he did serve a six-game penalty for high-sticking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor during the 2023-24 season. Wilson has also shifted his style, opting to inform opposing players before making significant hits.
Performance Statistics
Since his entry into the NHL in the 2013-14 season, Wilson leads the league in penalty minutes, totaling 1,586. Patrick Maroon, in comparison, has 1,075 penalty minutes, trailing significantly behind Wilson.
This season, Wilson ranks fifth in penalty minutes with 54 and has contributed significantly to his team, tallying 32 points in 30 games (17 goals, 15 assists).
