Chain Reaction in Anaheim Permanently Closes After 30 Years
Chain Reaction, the iconic music venue in Anaheim, has announced its permanent closure after almost 30 years of operation. The all-ages club has been a cornerstone of the alternative music scene, providing a platform for both local and national talent.
Farewell to a Music Legacy
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, the venue expressed gratitude for the memories shared within its walls. “For almost 30 years, Chain Reaction has proudly fostered the alt-music scene,” the post stated. The closure was a difficult decision, with the team reflecting deeply before making it.
Chain Reaction’s final performances are scheduled for December 18 and December 19. Local bands Movements and Militarie Gun, along with Underbrook and Cherdomingo, will take the stage for these last shows. Tickets are available at allages.com.
A Brief History
Chain Reaction first opened in 1996, originally known as Public Storage Coffee Lounge. Tucked away in a strip mall on Lincoln Avenue, it initially did not serve alcohol, creating a safe space for young music enthusiasts aged 15 to 20.

Support During Difficult Times
This is not the first time Chain Reaction faced closure. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the club announced it would shut down after a seven-month hiatus from live music. Despite receiving a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan, management felt it was insufficient to keep the venue afloat until restrictions lifted.
In response, various bands, including Orange County’s Stick To Your Guns, rallied support to save the venue. Initiatives included the sale of special edition merchandise, with notable support from bands like Thrice, which offered a Chain Reaction-themed T-shirt through its online store.
Cultural Significance
Over the years, Chain Reaction became a vital platform for emerging bands. Many artists who reached mainstream success, including Avenged Sevenfold, Fall Out Boy, and Rise Against, had their early performances at this storied venue.
Fans fondly recall their experiences, with comments reminiscing about intimate concerts and discovering new music. The venue has been described as “the heartbeat of Southern California’s underground music scene,” capturing the essence of punk, hardcore, and community spirit.
As the community prepares to say goodbye, the legacy of Chain Reaction will remain a cherished part of music history. Its profound impact on artists and fans alike ensures that its spirit will resonate in the hearts of many for years to come.
