Georgia Football Cancels Future Home-and-Homes with Louisville and NC State

Georgia football is adjusting its future schedule, announcing the cancellation of home-and-home series with Louisville and NC State. The Georgia Bulldogs plan to explore the option of playing both teams in a neutral site game in the future.

Changes to Upcoming Schedule

Originally, Georgia was scheduled to face Louisville in 2026 and 2027. The matchups with NC State were set for 2033 and 2034. The decision to cancel these series comes in light of recent announcements from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) regarding expanded scheduling.

SEC’s New Conference Format

In August, the SEC declared it would implement a nine-conference game format starting in 2026. This change significantly impacts team scheduling strategies across the league.

For the upcoming 2026 season, Georgia’s conference opponents will include:

  • South Carolina
  • Alabama
  • Ole Miss
  • Arkansas
  • Missouri (home)
  • Vanderbilt (home)
  • Oklahoma (home)
  • Auburn (home)
  • Florida (in Atlanta)

In addition to its SEC games, Georgia will play non-conference games against Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, and Georgia Tech at Sanford Stadium.

Coach Kirby Smart’s Concerns

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart expressed apprehensions regarding the SEC’s shift to nine conference games. After the recent SEC championship victory over Alabama, Smart highlighted the physical toll on players.

He noted, “Those two teams were beat up tonight. We’re looking at next year having another game. The coaches in our league are concerned about it.”

Kickoff Details for 2026

The 2026 season will commence for Georgia on September 5 against Tennessee State. A detailed schedule for the year will be unveiled on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
