Flooding Forces Road Closures in Whatcom and Skagit Counties
Flooding has led to numerous road closures in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Affected areas face increased travel difficulties as heavy rain continues to impact the region.
Road Closures in Skagit County
As of Wednesday morning, several roads in Skagit County are closed due to flooding:
- Swan Road, between Nookachamps Bridge and Mud Lake Road
- Nicholson Road, from SR20
- Robinson Road, between SR20 and Lyman-Hamilton Highway
- Lyman-Hamilton Highway, closed at two locations: 30191 and 30105
- Harrison Road, between 9353 and 9179 Harrison
- Minkler Road, between Hoehn Road and Sims Road
- West Whitmarsh Road, from Bennett Road to Bouslog Road
- Healy Road, from Lyman Hamilton Highway to SR20
- Fruitdale Road, at 10432 Fruitdale
Road Closures in Whatcom County
Whatcom County is also experiencing road closures as a result of the flooding:
- Barrett Road at Paradise Road
- Bylsma Road, north of East Wiser Lake Road
- Ferndale Road, north of Marine Drive at gates
- Marine Drive, between Lummi Shore Road and Rural Avenue, and north of Bayon Road
- Marine Drive, between Hoff Road and Bayon Road
- Polinder Road, between Hannegan Road and Bylsma Road
- Dewey Road, between north of Bakerview Road and Van Wyck Road
Impact on Bellingham
In Bellingham, police reported that multiple roads have water accumulation, including Meador under I-5, Iowa and Moore, and Iowa and Lincoln. Authorities are working to manage the situation and discourage travel through flooded areas.
Public Transportation Updates
The Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) canceled afternoon trips on Route 71X due to the flooding. The last departure for the day will be at 11:30 a.m. from Cordata Station. Passengers needing assistance can reach WTA at 360-676-7433.
Skagit Transit is currently assisting with evacuation efforts and recommends avoiding non-essential travel. Paratransit service in eastern Skagit County is suspended due to flooding. Routes 70X and 717 are canceled because of unsafe conditions on Highway 20.
