Ovechkin Hosts Inspiring Clinic for American Special Hockey Kids

Alex Ovechkin, celebrated for becoming the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer, recently hosted a hockey clinic that showcased his unwavering support for American Special Hockey. The event took place at the Washington Capitals’ practice facility and welcomed around 50 players from the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA).

Ovechkin’s Continued Support for ASHA

Ovechkin has been an active ambassador for ASHA since 2014. His involvement reflects a deep commitment to promoting the sport among individuals with disabilities. “It’s great to spend time with those kids,” Ovechkin remarked during the clinic. His enthusiasm is infectious, as parents and players alike enjoyed the positive atmosphere.

About American Special Hockey Association

Founded in 2007, ASHA utilizes hockey as a therapeutic outlet for players facing intellectual, developmental, and physical challenges. The association has expanded significantly, growing from 45 programs to 140 across the United States. Today, ASHA serves over 8,750 athletes and includes a total membership of 11,500 coaches and volunteers.

Participation and Impact

During this latest event, players from six different teams participated:

Mike Miller, a founder and coach of the Hershey Heroes, shared his thoughts on Ovechkin’s impact. “Ovi’s commitment to American Special Hockey is beyond belief and expectation,” he stated. “He gives tickets, he gives time, which is even more important, and he just gives of himself.”
