Lennon Poised to Ignite Action at Ally Pally Event

As the festive season approaches, anticipation builds for the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace. This annual event has become a pinnacle of Christmas entertainment for darts fans worldwide. One competitor eager to make his mark is Carlow’s Steve Lennon.

Lennon Ready to Shine at Ally Pally Event

After a challenging previous season, Lennon has successfully qualified for this year’s championship, which commences on Thursday. He expressed his current good form, stating, “I’m feeling good, playing well. It does just come down to the day now.” Reassured by qualifying through the pro tour, he remains focused on delivering his best performance.

Struggles from Last Season

Last year, Lennon faced difficulties both on and off the oche, resulting in his absence from the tournament. He mentioned, “I was gutted I missed last year’s worlds. My mind really wasn’t in it for most of the season.” With a renewed mental focus, darts has regained priority for him.

Current Ranking and Tour Card Pressure

  • Current World Ranking: 74th
  • Position Needed for Tour Card: Top 64

Lennon’s previous season has placed him at risk of losing his tour card, but he remains undeterred. “I had a good season so far this year but obviously as a result of having a poor season last year, the tour card is at risk,” he explained. His immediate plan is to concentrate on the World Championship.

Upcoming Match Against Damon Heta

Lennon will face Australian player Damon Heta, the 16th seed, in the first round. Their previous encounter saw Lennon triumph, giving him a psychological edge. “It’s not the easiest draw but hopefully he will have that in the back of his mind that I beat him recently,” he commented.

Looking Ahead to the Championship

This season has been frustrating for Lennon, marked by narrowly lost matches. Yet, he remains optimistic. “Overall though, my main target was to get back to the World Championships. I’ve been quite consistent, especially in the last six months,” he stated. With motivation rekindled, Lennon is ready to make a significant impact at this year’s Ally Pally event. He is eager to harness his determination and deliver an impressive performance.
