Chairman Comer Demands Clintons’ Depositions or Threatens Congress Contempt
House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has announced the upcoming depositions for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The depositions are set for December 17 and December 18, 2025, respectively.
Contempt Threat Over Clinton Depositions
Chairman Comer expressed concern about the delays from the Clintons. He stated that it has been over four months since they were subpoenaed related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The former President and Secretary of State have reportedly obstructed and ignored efforts to schedule their testimonies.
Comer has stated that if the Clintons do not appear for their depositions next week or agree to a date in early January, the Committee will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.
Background on the Investigation
The investigation into Epstein and Maxwell’s crimes has gained bipartisan attention. On July 23, 2025, the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee voted to issue subpoenas to ten individuals, including both Clintons. The motion was passed unanimously.
Following this vote, Chairman Comer officially issued the subpoenas on August 5, 2025. Recent correspondence indicates that only the Clintons appear to be resisting compliance with the subpoenas.
